Our Story

We met through a mutual friend, someone who had been gaming with both of us separately for months. She knew I was from the same area as him and suggested we meet. “He’s cool,” she said, “and you two would get along.” I agreed, thinking it couldn’t hurt. I had no idea how that decision would change everything.

The first time we spoke to each other, I wasn’t impressed. He was a little awkward, a bit offbeat—honestly, I thought he was kind of weird. He didn’t say much, and when he did, it was often a little random. But I didn’t write him off completely. Our mutual love for cars kept me around; I found out he was into them and attended car meets, just like I did with my then-boyfriend. It made sense to invite him along to one of those meets, hoping to get to know him better. Maybe he wasn’t so strange after all.

At the meet, he was still, well, weird. He didn’t talk much, and the few words he did speak were very random. I was starting to wonder if I had made a mistake inviting him. But something shifted when, out of nowhere one night, he asked if he could vent to me. He wanted an unbiased opinion on something personal, because I didn’t know the details of the situation. We ended up talking for three straight hours on the phone, and during those hours, I saw a side of him I hadn’t expected—someone open, real, and thoughtful. We went deeper than casual small talk, and I found myself drawn in.

From then on, we started hanging out more, just the two of us. No distractions, no expectations—just two people getting to know each other. It didn’t take long before we realized there was something there. We decided to give us a chance, cautiously at first. But as the days turned into months and then years, we grew closer. Six years later, I still can’t believe how that awkward first meeting led to the best decision of my life.

I guess sometimes the weirdest connections turn out to be the most meaningful ones.
