When one starts dating another person, I feel like you always think about that moment of a proposal. Maybe it's just me, as a girl, thinking that, but I did think about it. Even after two years, I thought about Jake proposing to me. I thought that he would take me to dinner and a movie one night and have the ring in the champagne. Or that he would have a big box with smaller boxes inside of it with a ring in it. But, alas, that was not where it happened.

It was, believe it or not, a surprise. We had gotten invited to a New Years party at one of our friend's apartment building, December 31, 2016. I was wearing nothing extraordinary, a white tee shirt and some jeans. My hair hadn't been washed in a couple days and I was due for a shower. We sat down to a game of Cards Against Humanity and were laughing our heads off. Our host had put on Star Wars in the background so we could watch the Death Star blow up at midnight. As we were nearing 12:00, we all stopped playing the game and looked up at the TV. That's when Jake got down on one knee and tried to get my attention. Well, by then, I knew what was going to happen, so I tried to play it off like I wasn't paying attention, but I knew what he was doing. Finally the Death Star blew up, he asked me to marry him, and I said... maybe. Of course, it was a joke and I said yes right after and the rest was history.

We did redo the engagement in a much better location and with me much better looking and when he was able to buy me the ring of my choice.
