Matt and I met the at the Montgomery police academy in February of 2015. We were forced to sit next to eachother in the classroom and stand next to eachother for 13 weeks! We were both seeing other people at the time so we became friends. Matt found out I had a love for fitness and a good knowledge base so he began to pick my brain. We became workout buddies for a while, getting our lunch together most days.
After graduating the academy, we kept in touch, hanging out a few times. Our respective relationships disintegrated fairly quickly and with more free time we began to see each other more and more. We went out for Halloween. I invited him to Thanksgiving at my house. Pretty soon, Matt was the only person I really wanted to talk to. He made me feel so special and I could talk to him about anything. I had never felt so comfortable with anyone.
At first, when Matt told me he had feelings for me I tried to deny it. We were such amazing friends and he was a little younger than me. I was so scared of how it could change our relationship that I tried to pretend nothing had changed. That lasted about a week... until I saw him again. As cheesy as it sounds, the next time I saw him it all kind of fell into place. I already knew I loved him as my closest friends and I felt more growing between us.
We started dating around November and from day one he told me he was going to "put a ring on it". I tried unsuccessfully to keep everything light and casual but that didn't last more than a few weeks. I went to Germany to visit my parents for Christmas and it was the longest 10 days of my life. I missed him more than was reasonable and I realized how serious things were getting.
Around New Years, Matt scared the living HELL out of me by getting in a car accident while talking to me on the phone. I took the next day off work and drove to prattville. I decided he was just going to have to be taken care of at my house and proceeded to become the nurse. I, as expected, had a life-is-too-short moment, got a little emotional and told Matt I loved him and he wasn't aloud to go anywhere.
A few months later we took a trip to Lake Martin. We hunkered down in our cabin for a few days while an unexpected storm scared our poor dogs until finally, on our last day, we got sunshine. We spent the last day on the water and went out to dinner that night. Later that night, Matt took me out to one of the docks and surprised me with a ring and a question. After all the rain and our trip being mostly ruined, i was not expecting this to happen this weekend. All I could say was "ok"! It took me about 24 hours to realize what had happened and to have an appropriate response of jumping up and down and calling everyone I know, unfortunately. I blame the rain ;)
Now, I get to marry my favorite person in the whole world! I am so excited and I don't want to wait anymore!
